Baidyanath Temple, also known as Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga Shrine, is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the most sacred abodes of Shiva. It is located in Deoghar in the Santhal Parganas division of the state of Jharkhand, India. The temple complex consists of the main temple of Baba Baidyanath, where the Jyotirlinga is installed, and 21 other temples. According to Hindu beliefs, the temple marks the place where Ravana offered his ten heads to Shiva as a sacrifice. Impressed by Ravana's devotion, Shiva descended to cure him and hence the name 'Baidyanath'. The temple's architectural style is a classic example of the northern Indian style of temple architecture with a tall curvilinear Shikhara. Thousands of pilgrims visit this holy site during the month of Shravan to offer holy water from the Ganges to the deity, a pilgrimage known as Kanwar Yatra. The temple serves as a significant spiritual and cultural hub in the region, attracting devotees from all over the country.
