Best Time To Visit Brigade War Gallery (Drass) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Brigade War Gallery, Drass, Ladakh, India

The optimal time to visit the Brigade War Gallery in Drass, Ladakh, is during the summer months, particularly from June to September. During this period, the weather in Ladakh is most favorable for tourism as the temperatures are relatively mild. The summer season in Drass brings out the lush greenery of the region, offering striking contrast with the backdrop of rugged mountains. It is important to note that Drass is touted as the second coldest inhabited place in the world, therefore, the summers are also the warmest time of the year in this region, with daytime temperatures ranging between 15°C to 25°C. This is the time when the snow from the harsh winter months has melted, and the roads, including the vital Srinagar-Leh highway, are clear and safe for travel. However, due to its high altitude, visitors are always advised to be cautious of altitude sickness no matter what time of year they visit.

Visiting the Brigade War Gallery during this season not only offers pleasant weather but it also coincides with the celebration of the Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26th, which commemorates the heroes of the Kargil War. The gallery holds significance as it is dedicated to the soldiers who fought bravely in the conflict. It is advisable for tourists to avoid visiting during the winter months from November to February, as temperatures can plummet to an extreme -45°C, making it extremely challenging to venture outdoors and also leading to frequent road closures due to heavy snowfall and ice. Additionally, accommodation options are limited during winter, and many facilities shut down due to the harsh weather.
