Reaching Bulethi Pagoda in Bagan, Myanmar

To visit the Bulethi Pagoda, one of the lesser-known yet captivating pagodas in Bagan, you can consider the following travel options depending on your point of departure:

Traveling to Bagan

By Air: The nearest airport is Nyaung U Airport (NYU), which is well-connected to major cities in Myanmar like Yangon and Mandalay. From the airport, you can hire a taxi or arrange for a pickup service with your hotel to reach Bulethi Pagoda.
By Bus: Long-distance buses from cities such as Yangon, Mandalay, and Inle Lake are available. The trip can be long, up to 10 hours from Yangon, for instance. Once you arrive in Bagan's bus terminal, taxis and e-bikes are available for rent to get to Bulethi Pagoda.
By Train: Bagan is also accessible by train from Yangon and Mandalay, although train rides can be quite lengthy and less comfortable than bus or air travel. Upon arrival at the railway station, you can take a taxi to reach your destination.
By Boat: There are ferries that run along the Ayeyarwady River from Mandalay to Bagan, providing a scenic albeit slower travel option. From the jetty, taxis are available to take you to Bulethi Pagoda.

Local Transportation in Bagan

E-Bikes: One of the most popular ways to explore Bagan is by renting an electronic bike (e-bike), which allows you to navigate the temple plains independently and reach Bulethi Pagoda along with other nearby attractions.
Bicycle: For the physically active traveler, bicycles can be rented from several guesthouses and bike rental shops in Bagan. Cycling to Bulethi is an eco-friendly option and provides an immersive experience.
Horse Cart: For a more traditional and leisurely pace, hiring a horse cart can be a charming way to see Bagan's pagodas, including Bulethi. Negotiate the price with the driver before starting your journey.
Taxi or Private Car: Taxis or private cars with a driver can be hired for a full day or half-day tour of the Bagan Archaeological Zone, which encompasses Bulethi Pagoda. This is a convenient option for those looking for comfort and less physical exertion.

Please note that due to Bagan's status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, cars and buses are not allowed to drive on some of the ancient roads closest to the temples. As such, smaller forms of transport like e-bikes and bicycles are often a better choice for temple exploration.

When planning your visit, also take into account the entrance fee for the Bagan Archaeological Zone, which typically includes access to all the temples, including Bulethi.

Always check the latest travel advisories and local regulations before planning your visit, as they can change due to varying circumstances.
