Dukhan is a city situated on the western coast of the Qatar peninsula, approximately 80 kilometers from the capital, Doha. It is an important industrial city, primarily known for its oil fields and related activities. The city is the site of the first substantial oil discovery in Qatar, which marked the beginning of the country's emergence as a major oil-producing region. Dukhan is operated by QatarEnergy (formerly Qatar Petroleum), which manages the oil production and exportation. The city is characterized by its desert terrain, with the Dukhan oil field encompassing an extensive area. It is a planned city, featuring residential areas for workers, as well as all necessary amenities such as schools, medical facilities, and shopping centers. It is less known for tourism compared to other Qatari cities but offers a glimpse into the industrial life of the nation. Dukhan's shore also provides beautiful beaches such as Dukhan Beach, which is a popular spot for water sports and picnics, especially during the cooler months.
