Best Time To Visit Gotsang Gompa (Hemis) In 2026 - 2027

The best time to visit Gotsang Gompa in Hemis, Ladakh, India, is during the summer months, from June to September. During these months, the weather is most favorable as the temperatures are mild, ranging between 15 to 25 degrees Celsius, making the daytime pleasant for exploration and trekking. Summer is also when the snow has melted, and all the roads and passes are open, ensuring ease of access to Gotsang Gompa and the surrounding areas. This period also coincides with the famous Hemis Festival, usually held in June or July, which is a spectacular event that showcases the rich cultural heritage of the region with colorful masks dances, music, and religious rituals. Visiting during the festival will provide an added bonus to your trip, allowing you to experience local traditions and festivities.

While the summer offers the prime weather and cultural experiences, if you prefer solitude and a more meditative environment, consider visiting in the late autumn months of October and November. During this time, the number of tourists decreases significantly and you will find Gotsang Gompa extremely peaceful. The landscapes of Ladakh take on a different hue as the foliage turns golden, providing a different kind of beauty compared to the verdant summer months. Keep in mind, however, that temperatures start to drop considerably as winter approaches, and you may find some guesthouses and facilities in the region beginning to close in preparation for the harsh winter. If you choose to visit during this shoulder season, ensure that you are well-prepared with warm clothing and plan your accommodations in advance.
