Best Time to Visit Great Himalayan National Park (Tirthan Valley)

Located in the Kullu region of Himachal Pradesh, the Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP) in Tirthan Valley is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a haven for trekkers, nature lovers, and wildlife enthusiasts. The best time to visit the park is between the months of March to June and September to November. During these months, the weather is pleasant with moderate temperatures, making it ideal for trekking and exploring the diverse flora and fauna. The spring season from March to April sees the snow melting and the valley blooming with flowers, making it a vibrant time for photographers and nature lovers. Summers, from May to June, offer clear skies and lush green landscapes, perfect for wildlife sightings.

However, if solitude and the raw beauty of the park are what you seek, visiting during the post-monsoon months of September to November can be rewarding. The monsoon rains that come between July and August leave the forest clean and the rivers full. Post-monsoon, the waterfalls are at their fullest glory and the valley showcases a palette of russet and gold as the autumn kicks in. Treks during this time are delightful, with crisp air and panoramic views. While winter treks can be challenging due to heavy snowfall and cold temperatures, they can offer an entirely different perspective of the park's serene beauty for the experienced and adequately prepared adventurers. It is advisable to avoid the monsoon season due to the risks of landslides and floods, which can make the terrain dangerous and trekking routes inaccessible.
