The Green Vault (Grünes Gewölbe) is a museum located in Dresden, Germany that is renowned for its extensive collection of treasures. Founded by Augustus the Strong in 1723, it is one of the oldest museums in Europe and is situated inside the historical Dresden Castle. The museum is divided into two sections: the Historic Green Vault and the New Green Vault. The Historic Green Vault is famous for its Baroque opulence and the presentation of treasures in the original cabinets without showcases, allowing an immersive experience of 18th-century artistry. The New Green Vault, on the other hand, focuses on individual pieces and their artistic value, displayed with modern museum technology. Highlights include the Dresden Green Diamond, an array of goldsmith’s work, and the intricate craftsmanship of precious gemstones and ivory. The museum's collection comprises around 4,000 exhibits of gold, precious stones, and other luxurious items, exhibiting Saxony's ceremonial and courtly culture.
