Best Time To Visit Hashima Island (Nagasaki) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Hashiga Island, Nagasaki, Japan

The ideal time to visit Hashima Island, commonly known as Gunkanjima (Battleship Island), is during the spring and fall months, typically from late March to April and from October to November. These periods are preferred as the weather is mild, with comfortable temperatures and less rainfall, creating perfect conditions for exploring the island's haunting ruins. Spring offers the bonus of cherry blossoms in the region, which can be a splendid sight in nearby Nagasaki. The fair weather also ensures safer and more reliable boat trips to the island, which is important as access to Hashima is exclusively by sea.

Alternatively, summer, from May to September, can be quite humid and hot with occasional heavy rain, which may not be the most comfortable for touring the abandoned sites. Additionally, the summer months sometimes bring typhoons, which can disrupt travel plans and cause cancellations of ferry services to the island. To ensure a smoother experience, always check the weather forecast and book your tour ahead, as services to Hashima can be limited and are subject to weather conditions. Fall, on the other hand, offers a respite from the heat and the lush foliage on the mainland offers a beautiful backdrop during this period.
