Hehuanshan is a stunning mountainous area located in Nantou County, and it's part of the Central Mountain Range of Taiwan. With its breathtaking views and cool climate, it's a haven for trekkers, photographers, and nature enthusiasts. Here are detailed ways on how you can reach this majestic place:

By Public Transportation:

To get to Hehuanshan by public transport, you can follow these steps:

  • Step 1: Travel to Taichung City, which is one of the main gateways to Hehuanshan and can be easily reached by high-speed train (HSR), train or bus from various cities across Taiwan.
  • Step 2: From Taichung, head to the Taichung Gancheng Station or Taichung Nantou Bus Station to catch a Nantou Bus towards Puli.
  • Step 3: Once in Puli, switch to the Nantou Bus that heads to Cingjing Farm.
  • Step 4: Get off at Cingjing Farm and transfer to a final bus that goes directly to Hehuanshan. Note that the number of buses from Cingjing to Hehuanshan may be limited, so be sure to plan accordingly and check the latest timetable.

By Car:

Driving to Hehuanshan offers more flexibility and is a common choice for many travelers:

  • Route 1 (From the west): Drive along Provincial Highway 14 from Taichung to Puli, continuing on the same route until you reach Hehuanshan.
  • Route 2 (From the east): If you're coming from the east side of Taiwan, take Provincial Highway 8 from Hualien to Taroko, then change to Provincial Highway 14A (the Central Cross-Island Highway), which leads to Hehuanshan.

By Guided Tour:

Another convenient option is to join a guided tour from major cities like Taipei, Taichung, or Kaohsiung. Tours usually include transportation and a guide, making them a worry-free way to experience Hehuanshan.

Notes and Tips:

When planning a trip to Hehuanshan, it is important to check the weather conditions in advance as the area is known for rapid changes in weather, which can affect road conditions. During winter, snow can lead to road closures. Additionally, altitude sickness can be an issue due to the high elevation, so take necessary precautions if you're prone to altitude-related health issues.

For a truly memorable visit, make sure to experience both the sunrise and sunset, as they offer some of the most spectacular views you can witness in Taiwan.
