How to Reach Hiroshima Castle

Exploring the historic Hiroshima Castle is a must when visiting Hiroshima. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you reach this iconic landmark with ease.

By Air

If you're coming from outside Japan or a distant region within the country, the closest airport is Hiroshima Airport (HIJ). From the airport, you can:

  • Take the Hiroshima Airport Limousine Bus to Hiroshima Bus Center which takes about 45-50 minutes. From there, Hiroshima Castle is a short walk or bus ride away.
  • Alternatively, take a taxi directly from Hiroshima Airport to Hiroshima Castle. This will take approximately 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic conditions.

By Train

Hiroshima is well-connected by Japan's extensive Shinkansen (bullet train) network. Upon reaching Hiroshima Station by Shinkansen or local train:

  • Exit Hiroshima Station and take the Hiroshima Electric Railway (tram) lines 1, 2, or 6 from the Hiroshima Station Tram Stop to Kamiyachō (Kamiya Town) which is the closest tram stop to Hiroshima Castle.
  • After alighting at Kamiyachō, it is approximately a 10-minute walk to the castle grounds.

By Bus

Local buses run frequently through Hiroshima city:

  • Board the Hiroshima Bus from Hiroshima Station and alight at the Castle (Hiroshima-jo) bus stop.

On Foot

For those who enjoy walking, Hiroshima Castle is a leisurely walk from the city center. From Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, it is about a 15 to 20-minute walk.

By Car

If you prefer to rent a car, parking is available near the castle. However, keep in mind that traffic can be heavy and navigating the city's one-way streets can be challenging. It is usually more convenient to use public transportation.
