Hiroshima Museum of Art was established in May 1978 as a cultural facility in remembrance of the indomitable humanity displayed by the citizens of Hiroshima in the aftermath of the atomic bombing in 1945. Located in Hiroshima Central Park, the art museum is adjacent to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and provides a quiet, contemplative environment. The museum's collection focuses on European modern art, including works by Monet, Degas, and Renoir, as well as Japanese modern art that shows western influence. Moreover, the museum also exhibits paintings related to Hiroshima and the atomic bomb. Designed by architect Kenzo Tange, the building's aesthetic reflects a harmonious blend of western and traditional Japanese architectural styles. The museum aims to contribute to the local community through art and to promote international peace. Visitors can immeronce themselves in the museum's tranquil settings and explore the thematically curated exhibitions that often revolve around nature, life, and beauty, offering a stark contrast to the history of the city.
