Jhansi Fort, often referred to as 'Jhansi ka Kila', is a formidable fortress situated in the historic city of Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh, India. This 17th-century structure sprawls magnificently over a hilltop and has witnessed many battles. The fort is closely associated with Rani Lakshmibai, the valiant queen of Jhansi, who fought bravely against the British during India’s First War of Independence in 1857. Built by Raja Bir Singh Ju Deo of Orchha in 1613, the fort is a symbol of resistance and bravery. Its thick granite walls, which stretch up to 15-20 feet, ten gates, and several towers and battlements, bear testimony to its might and architectural prowess. Within the fort, there are remnants of a palace, a temple, and a shrine, which offer an insight into its regal past. The fort also houses a museum that exhibits a collection of sculptures and provides an overview of its history. The panoramic view of the city from the fort is particularly breathtaking during sunsets.
