The Kaaba, also spelled Ka'bah, is a small, cube-shaped building located in the center of the Masjid al-Haram mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is the most sacred site in Islam, towards which Muslims around the world face during their daily prayers. The Kaaba is roughly 15 meters high, and it is made of gray stone and marble. It is covered with a black silk cloth known as the Kiswa, which is embroidered with gold and replaced annually. The structure is said to have been built by Abraham and his son Ishmael, and it has been rebuilt several times throughout history. It is the focal point of the Hajj pilgrimage, an obligatory act of worship that Muslims must perform at least once in their lifetime if they are able. The Kaaba's significance lies in its role as the 'House of God' (Baitullah), establishing unity among Muslims through its direction (qibla) for prayer.
