Best Time To Visit Kailash And Kutumsar Caves (Bastar) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Kailash and Kutumsar Caves, Bastar

The Kailash and Kutumsar Caves, located within the verdant forests of Bastar, Chhattisgarh, are best visited during the winter months, from October to March. This period is considered ideal as the weather is cooler and more comfortable for exploration. The temperature during these months ranges from a pleasant 10°C to 30°C, ensuring a comfortable journey through the caves without the overpowering heat that is characteristic of the Indian summer. Moreover, the reduced humidity in the winter months makes touring the subterranean landscapes of the caves, which can otherwise be quite humid and warm, a much more enjoyable experience.

It is important to note that the caves are closed during the monsoon season, which typically spans from June to September, due to increased levels of water that may flood the caves making them inaccessible and dangerous for visitors. Furthermore, wildlife, in particular the infamous Bastar hill myna, is more apparent in the cooler months, making it an ideal time for nature enthusiasts and bird-watchers to visit. Additionally, local festivals and fairs, such as the Bastar Dussehra and the Goncha Festival, take place during this time, providing visitors with a unique insight into the rich cultural tapestry of the region. So, for a fully rounded experience of natural beauty, cultural engagement, and comfortable travel conditions, a visit to the Kailash and Kutumsar Caves between October and March is highly recommended.
