Kanchenjunga National Park Tourism

Kanchenjunga National Park, also known as Khangchendzonga Biosphere Reserve, is located in the Indian state of Sikkim. Established in 1977, it is named after the third highest peak in the world, Mount Kanchenjunga, which is also revered by the locals. The park encompasses an area of around 849.5 sq km with its diverse ecosystem featuring glaciers, valleys, and vast forests. It is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site owing to its unique biodiversity and cultural significance. The park is home to many rare and endangered wildlife species such as snow leopards, red pandas, Himalayan tahr, and many others. Rich in flora, it hosts a wide variety of trees, orchids, and medicinal plants. The park's terrain includes broad-leaved and mixed-coniferous forests transitioning to alpine meadows and barren landscapes at higher altitudes. Traditional practices and sacred meanings attributed to the natural elements by the indigenous inhabitants integrate with conservation efforts, portraying a unique blend of culture and nature conservation.
