It holds significant religious importance and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Constructed by the kings of the Ganga dynasty around the 12th-13th century, the temple showcases a quintessential style of Kalinga architecture with intricate carvings and a towering vimana (temple spire). The temple is surrounded by lush greenery and a plethora of flora and fauna. It can be reached by climbing 1352 steps or by a motorable road around the hill leading to its entrance. The temple complex also includes shrines dedicated to other deities including Vishnu, Hanuman, and several other gods and goddesses.
