Kapurthala is a city in the Indian state of Punjab, famed for its grand buildings and historical significance. Often referred to as the 'Paris of Punjab', it reflects a blend of Indo-Saracenic and French architectural styles, embodying the vision of its erstwhile Maharaja, Jagatjit Singh. Key landmarks include the Moorish Mosque, a replica of the Grand Mosque of Marrakesh, and the splendid Jagatjit Palace, which is now the Sainik School. Kapurthala is replete with beautiful gardens, religious places, and architectural marvels that hold the rich legacy of its princely past. This city was also known for being a progressive state under the reign of Maharaja Jagatjit Singh, who promoted education and development. The Elysee Palace, Shalimar Gardens, Panj Mandir, and Kanjli Wetland are some other attractions in Kapurthala. The latter, a part of the Ramsar wetlands, offers bird watchers an excellent opportunity to spot a variety of local and migratory birds. Kapurthala also hosts the Rail Coach Factory, which is one of the largest manufacturers of railway coaches in India.
