How To Reach Karakol

The nearest airport to Karakol is Issyk-Kul International Airport (IKU) in Tamchy. However, it has limited international flights. Most travelers would first arrive at Manas International Airport (FRU) in Bishkek, the capital city of Kyrgyzstan.

• From Manas International Airport, you can either take a domestic flight to Issyk-Kul International Airport or
• Rent a car or take a taxi to Karakol, which is about a 6-hour drive.

By Road:

Many travelers choose to rent a car or hire a taxi for the scenic drive to Karakol. Public buses and shared minivans, known as marshrutkas, also operate between Bishkek and Karakol.

• Marshrutkas leave daily from Bishkek's Western Bus Station and take about 6-8 hours.
• Private taxis can be arranged at the airport or through your hotel. The journey takes around 6 hours.

By Train:

To experience an incredible travel odyssey, you can ride the rails from Bishkek to Balykchy at the western edge of Lake Issyk-Kul. From Balykchy, take a bus or taxi to complete your journey to Karakol.
