Kek Lok Si Temple, located in George Town, Penapolitanang, is one of Southeast Asia's largest and most significant Buddhist temples. Esteemed for its size and grandeur, it is a hodgepodge of Mahayana Buddhism and traditional Chinese rituals. Built over a century ago, the temple complex is a stunning representation of architectural and cultural heritage, featuring a series of prayer halls, pavilions, and bell towers perched on a hillside with panoramic views of Penang. The centerpiece is the Pagoda of Rama VI (Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas), which seamlessly blends Chinese, Thai, and Burmese styles, symbolizing the eclecticism of Malaysian culture. Throughout the year, the temple is adorned with thousands of beautiful lanterns and decorations, particularly during the Chinese New Year, transforming it into a vibrant and festive destination for both pilgrims and tourists.
A must go visiting Georgtown and / or Penang island
Great place to go - recommend start from the top and walk down step by step - not at all commercialized as stated in some of the reviews - you may see many wonderful flowers / trees in the temple
