Best Time To Visit Konark Sun Temple (Konark) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Konark Sun Temple in Konark, Odisha, India

The ideal period to visit the Konark Sun Temple is during the winter months, from October to February. During this timeframe, the weather in Konark is pleasantly cool and comfortable, with temperatures ranging from a minimum of about 15°C to a maximum of 30°C. This is conducive for sightseeing and enables tourists to admire the intricate architecture and the beauty of the temple without the discomfort of the scorching summer heat or the heavy monsoon rains that the region experiences. The clear skies also ensure that the Sun Temple, which is designed to capture the sun's rays, is seen in its full glory. The cultural Konark Dance Festival, which takes place in December, is also a brilliant time to visit as it showcases classical dance forms from all over India against the backdrop of the temple.

However, it’s important to note that while the winter months are the best time to visit, they are also the peak tourist season, which means that the temple might be crowded and accommodations might be in high demand. If you are looking to avoid the crowds, you could consider visiting during the shoulder season, which is in the months of either September or March. During these months, you may experience slightly warmer temperatures than in the peak winter season, but you will avoid most of the heavy tourist traffic. Whatever time you choose to visit, ensure that you carry comfortable clothing and water, and start your day early to experience the sun’s play on the temple’s intricate carvings. Visiting during sunrise or sunset can also provide a spectacular view and a tranquil experience as the temple glows with the changing colors of the sky.
