Best Time to Visit Kotumsar Cave in Bastar, Chhattisgarh

Kotumsar Cave is located near the town of Jagdalpur, in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, India. This subterranean wonder is renowned for its stalactite and stalagmite formations, and it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the area. The best time to visit Kotumsar Cave is during the winter months from October to March. During this period, the weather in Bastar is relatively dry and mild, with average temperatures ranging from 10°C to 30°C (50°F to 86°F). This makes the exploration of the cave comfortable as the humidity is lower and the temperatures inside the caves remain cool and constant. Additionally, the post-monsoon period ensures that the water levels inside the cave have receded, making more areas accessible to tourists.

Visitors should note that the cave is closed during the monsoon season, which typically runs from June to September, due to flooding and high water levels which make it unsafe to enter. Post-monsoon, the cave reopens for public, showcasing a refreshed natural beauty, with the formations glistening with moisture. Furthermore, visiting during the winter season allows travelers to witness the rich tribal culture of Bastar, as many indigenous festivals and fairs, such as the famous Bastar Dussehra, take place in this time frame, providing a unique cultural experience. To optimize the visit, one should check local guidance regarding the timings and any need for permits or guides, as this can enhance the safety and inform about the cave's ecological significance and preservation efforts.
