Best Time To Visit Lhasa (China) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Llogging Lhasa, China

The ideal time to visit Lhasa is generally during the months of May to October when the weather is relatively mild and the city experiences the most vibrant cultural festivals. During this period, the temperatures range from 10°C to 25°C, allowing for pleasant exploration of the area. Moreover, the oxygen content is higher in these months, making acclimatization easier for travelers unaccustomed to the high altitude. This season also offers clearer skies and less rain, providing stunning views of the Himalayas. Tourists can enjoy the lush landscapes as well as the grandeur of Lhasa's temples and palaces under the warmth of the summer sun.

For those interested in local culture, visiting during the Shoton Festival, which usually takes place in August, is particularly recommended. This important event features the display of a giant thangka painting at Drepung Monastery, traditional Tibetan opera performances, and yoghurt eating festivities. While the city does attract more visitors during this high season, the cultural exchange and festive atmosphere are not to be missed. Those seeking a quieter experience might prefer late September to October, when tourist numbers dwindle but the weather remains pleasant. However, it's worth noting that nights can start to get chilly, so bringing warm clothing is advisable.
