Lukung is a serene village located at the western end of the Pangong Tso in Ladakh, India. Positioned at an altitude of 4,250 meters, it offers stunning vistas of the azure blue waters of the lake set against the backdrop of rugged Himalayan mountains. Pangong Tso, also known as Pangong Lake, stretches across India and China, with approximately 40% in India and the rest in Tibet. The lake is renowned for its changing colors, varying from shades of blue to green to red, depending on the sunlight. Lukung serves as one of the bases for tourists to explore this mesmerizing high-altitude saltwater lake. The landscape around Lukung is arid, with sparse vegetation, but the area is rich in wildlife, including migratory birds and the rare Kiang or Tibetan wild ass. The place is a favorite among nature lovers, photographers, and those seeking peace and solitude.
