Best Time To Visit Madurai (Tamil Nadu) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India

The ideal time to visit Madurai, one of Tamil Nadu's most vibrant cities, is during the winter months from October to March. During this period, the weather is pleasant, with cooler temperatures ranging from 20°C to 29°C. This climate is perfect for exploring the famous temples and historical monuments without the discomfort of excessive heat. Winter also coincides with several cultural festivals such as the Madurai Meenakshi Thirukalyanam (the celestial wedding of Goddess Meenakshi) which occurs in April, but preparations and pre-festivities begin earlier in the year. Tourists can enjoy the city's grandeur in full splendour during these festivals.

Avoid visiting during the summer months from April to July, when the temperature can soar up to 40°C, making sightseeing a strenuous activity. However, if you wish to experience Madurai's rich tradition of temple festivals regardless of the heat, you might consider enduring the high temperatures. The monsoon season from August to September presents intermittent heavy showers which might disrupt travel plans and outdoor activities. Nonetheless, the rains bring a refreshing change from the scorching summer and could be considered for a visit if you prefer a quieter experience of the city with fewer tourists around.
