Kodaikanal, often referred to as the 'Princess of Hill Stations', is nestled in the upper Palani Hills of the Western Ghats in Tamil Nadu, India. This quaint town is situated at an elevation of about 2,133 meters (7,000 feet) above sea level, and it covers an approximate area of 21.45 km². Kodaikanal was established in 1845 as a refuge from the high temperatures and tropical diseases of the plains. One of the town’s most iconic landmarks is the Kodaikanal Lake, a man-made, star-shaped body of water that is centrally located and surrounded by lush greenery and walking paths. The area is famed for its picturesque vistas, cascading waterfalls, and unique flora and fauna. Kodaikanal's economy relies heavily on tourism, and the town is known for its educational institutions and a variety of residential schools. Other attractions include Bryant Park, famous for its collection of plants and a beautifully manicured garden, Coaker's Walk offering panoramic views, Pillar Rocks, and the Guna caves, which have been formed by massive boulders. The serene atmosphere, combined with the cool and misty climate, makes Kodaikanal a popular retreat throughout the year.
