How to Reach Medici Chapels in Florence, Italy

The Medici Chapels, located in the bustling city of Florence, are a significant historic site and a testament to the legacy of the Medici family. Here’s how you can reach the Medici Chapels:

By Air

For international visitors, the nearest airport is the Amerigo Vespucci Airport (FLR), also known as Peretola Airport. Upon arrival:

  • Take a taxi directly to the Medici Chapels.
  • Use the Volainbus shuttle service which connects the airport to Santa Maria Novella train station located in the city center. From there, the Medici Chapels are within walking distance or a short taxi ride.

By Train

If you are traveling from within Italy or from another European city, the main railway hub in Florence is Santa Maria Novella station. After arriving:

  • The Medici Chapels are less than a 10-minute walk from the train station. Simply head southeast on Piazza della Stazione, turn right onto Largo Alinari, and continue onto Via Faenza until you reach the site.
  • Alternatively, you can take a taxi from the station for a quick transfer.

By Car

If you choose to drive:

  • Florence can be navigated via the motorway system that connects it to other major cities in Italy. The most commonly used motorway is the A1 Autostrada del Sole.
  • Parking can be challenging, as Florence's city center is largely a pedestrian area and a Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL). Look for parking areas just outside the ZTL zone.

By Public Transport

Within Florence, you have a variety of public transport options:

  • The ATAF city buses serve the entire urban area. Closest bus stops to the chapels would be listed on the official ATAF website.
  • Electric buses such as the C1, C2, and C3 lines maneuver through the narrow streets of the city center.
  • Single tickets or day passes can be purchased at tobacco stores, newsstands, or vending machines.

Remember, once you are in the vicinity of the Medici Chapels, navigating by foot may be the best way to experience the charm and history of Florence.
