How To Reach Meiji Shrine (Tokyo) In 2026 - 2027

Visiting Meiji Shrine in Tokyo, Japan

Meiji Shrine, also known as Meiji Jingu, is one of Tokyo's most famous Shinto shrines and a peaceful retreat within the bustling city. Here's how you can get to Meiji Shrine:

By Train

The most convenient way to reach Meiji Shrine is by train. The shrine is accessible via two primary train stations:

• Harajuku Station on the JR Yamanote Line: After exiting the station, it's a short walk to the shrine's main entrance through the forested path.
• Meiji-jingumae 'Harajuku' Station on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda and Fukutoshin Lines: From this station, you can easily reach the shrine by walking towards the northern entrance.

By Bus

Several bus lines serve the area around Meiji Shrine. You can catch a local bus that stops near the shrine's main entrance gates. This option is suitable if you're coming from a location that isn't directly served by the train network.

By Car

If you prefer to drive, there is a paid parking area near the shrine. However, due to heavy traffic congestion in Tokyo, it is recommended to use public transport instead.

On Foot

For those who enjoy walking, Meiji Shrine can be reached on foot from several nearby points of interest, including the bustling districts of Shibuya and Shinjuku, which are both approximately a 20-minute walk away.

Note: Meiji Shrine is located within a large forested area, providing a tranquil atmosphere. As you plan your visit, consider wearing comfortable walking shoes to enjoy the serene paths that lead to the shrine.
