Melghat Tiger Reserve, located in the Amravati district of Maharashtra, India, is a prominent tiger reserve in the Central Indian highlands. Established in 1974 under Project Tiger, it was among the first nine tiger reserves in India. Covering an area of about 1,676 square kilometers, Melghat includes Gugarnal National Park and the Melghat Wildlife Sanctuary. It is part of a larger forest tract connecting Satpura Range and is rich in biodiversity. The landscape comprises rugged terrain with steep, densely forested hills, deep valleys, and a network of rivers and streams. This diverse topography supports a variety of flora and fauna, including Bengal tigers, leopards, sloth bears, Indian gaur, sambar deer, and over 250 species of birds. The reserve is also home to several tribal communities, who coexist with the wildlife. Melghat plays a critical role in the conservation of tigers and their habitat, research, and eco-tourism. The reserve's forested hills provide picturesque views and opportunities for wildlife sighting.
