Best Time To Visit Mushkoh Valley (Drass) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Mushkoh Valley, Drass, Ladakh, India

Mushkoh Valley, tucked away in the enchanting region of Drass in Ladakh, India, is widely recognized as a high-altitude valley and has garnered attention for its rugged natural beauty and strategic military significance. Given the valley's high altitude and geographical location, the best time to visit is during the summer months from late May to early September. During this period, the harsh winter has subsided, and the snow-enveloped valley blooms with lush greenery, offering clear views of the majestic landscapes and making the areas accessible to tourists. The summer weather is most conducive to exploring the outdoors, with pleasant daytime temperatures facilitating trekking, camping, and sightseeing. However, even in summer, evening temperatures can dip, so visitors should be prepared with appropriate clothing.

It is important to note that Drass is often cited as the second coldest inhabited place in the world and winters can be incredibly severe, with temperatures plummeting to below freezing and heavy snowfall often closing access roads. Consequently, the winter season from November to April is inadvisable for tourist visits due to the extreme cold and potential risks associated with it. Moreover, during the recommended visitation window in the summer, it is advisable to stay updated regarding weather forecasts and local conditions, as even in these months, weather can be unpredictable in high-altitude areas like Mushkoh Valley. Armed with the right information and preparation, a summer visit to this secluded paradise offers an unforgettable experience for adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
