Best Time to Visit Mutrah Souq in Muscat, Oman

Mutrah Souq, known locally as Al Dhalam (Darkness in Arabic), is a traditional market in the heart of Muscat, Oman. This lively souq is best visited during the cooler months from November to March when the temperature in Muscat is pleasant. During these months, the weather is moderate with temperatures ranging between 17°C and 35°C, making it comfortable for tourists to explore the narrow alleyways and shop for traditional Omani goods and souvenirs.

Tourist footfall peaks from December to February, coinciding with several Omani festivals and events that add to the cultural experience. Evenings are particularly enchanting, as the souq comes alive with locals and tourists alike, making it an ideal time for a visit to experience the hustle and bustle of Omani trade. However, to avoid crowds, visiting in the early morning or just before the traditional midday closing can provide a more calm and introspective experience of the market's offerings, from intricately handcrafted khanjars to aromatic frankincense.
