Oktoberfest is the world's largest Volksfest (beer festival and travelling funfair) held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It spans over two weeks, starting late September to the first weekend in October. Originally a celebration of the marriage of the crown prince of Bavaria, who later became King Ludwig I, to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen on October 12, 1810, the event has grown to become a global phenomenon celebrating Bavarian culture. With an average of six million visitors, it features numerous attractions, including traditional foods, music, costumes, and most famously, beer—served in a variety of massive tents hosted by Munich breweries. Theresienwiese is the official ground where Oktoberfest takes place and translates to 'Theresa's Meadow', named after Princess Therese. The vast open space is used for various public events throughout the year, but it is most iconic as the venue for Oktoberfest. The area includes amusement rides, side stalls, and games, and is also a hub for traditional Bavarian culture and hospitality. The festival is a significant part of Munich's heritage and significantly impacts the local economy.
