Olympos, a beautiful town in Antalya, Turkey, is known for its rich historical ruins and stunning beach. Here is how you can reach Olympos:
Antalya Airport (AYT) is the nearest major airport to Olympos. You can take a domestic flight from major Turkish cities like Istanbul, Izmir, or Ankara. International flights from various parts of Europe and the Middle East also land in Antalya.
After arriving at Antalya Airport, you can take a taxi, private shuttle, or rent a car for the approximately 90 km journey to Olympos. Alternatively, there are public buses available from the main bus terminal in Antalya.
There are direct intercity buses to Olympos from Turkish cities like Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, or Fethiye. When using a bus service, you will need to get off at the Olympos bus stop and may need to take a minibus or a taxi to reach the beach or the village.
If you prefer driving, a road trip along the coast to Olympos is quite scenic. The D400 highway is the major road connecting Antalya to Olympos. Car rentals are available at the airport and in the city.
The Chimera, known locally as Yanartaş, is a geographical phenomenon with flames that burn from vents in the rocks. It is located near the village of Çıralı.
Chimera is located about 7 km north of Olympos. You can reach it by hiking along a marked trail that starts from Olympos and goes through the forest. The hike can take about 1-2 hours. Also, in the summer months, there are regular minibus services from Olympos to Çıralı, and from there you can walk or catch a taxi to Chimera.
Çıralı is the closest village to Chimera. From Çıralı, Yanartaş is accessible by a marked hiking path. The walk is relatively gentle and takes about 30 minutes from the village center.
Please be aware that the trek to Chimera is best done during the evening or night, as this is when the flames are most visible and the temperatures are cooler.
