Oura Catholic Church, Nagasaki, Japan: Food History

The Oura Catholic Church, also known as the Church of the Twenty-Six Martyrs of Japan, is significant not only for its religious and historical import but also for its location in Nagasaki, which has a rich culinary tradition. While the church itself is not directly associated with food, Nagasaki's history as an international port has heavily influenced its cuisine. Nagasaki was one of the few Japanese cities open to foreign trade during the isolationist Edo period. This exposure brought a diverse array of culinary influences, including Chinese, Dutch, and Portuguese, which can be seen in the area's unique food offerings.
