The Palazzi dei Rolli in Genoa, Italy, are an ensemble of Renaissance and Baroque palaces located in the historical center of the city. These palaces were part of an official roll (or list) during the late 16th and early 17th centuries, which designated them as lodging for VIPs during State visits. The system was unique to Genoa and reflected the city's approach to hospitality and the display of wealth and power. These palazzi became a model of urban design for aristocratic residences, showcasing grand architecture, frescoed interiors, and lush gardens. The Palazzi dei Rolli are situated on streets that notably include Via Garibaldi, originally named Strada Nuova. This UNESCO World Heritage Site epitomizes the peak of Genoese aristocratic splendor, with a network of 42 palaces divided into three different categories based on their size and grandeur. The design of each palace was intended to accommodate guests according to their rank and the length of their stay, indicating the meticulous social order of the time.
