Welcome to Bologna, Italy
Bologna, the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region, is known for its beautiful medieval architecture, rich food culture, and vibrant university scene. Two historical buildings you must visit are the Palazzo dei Banchi and the Palazzo dei Notai. Here's how to reach these stunning attractions:
Reaching Palazzo dei Banchi
Palazzo dei Banchi is situated in the heart of Bologna's historical center at Piazza Maggiore. Here are the best ways to get there:
- By Train: From Bologna Centrale train station, it is a short walk of about 15 minutes. Head east on Piazza delle Medaglie d'Oro, continue on Via dell'Indipendenza, and then turn left onto Via Rizzoli. You will find the Palazzo dei Banchi on your right, facing the Basilica di San Petronio.
- By Bus: The Bologna public transport company, TPER, operates several buses that stop near Piazza Maggiore. You can take buses such as 25, 29, 30, A, and T2. Get off at the Rizzoli stop, and you're just a few steps away from Palazzo dei Banchi.
- By Taxi/Car: If you're coming by taxi or car, there are several parking areas nearby, such as Piazza Roosevelt. Due to Palazzo dei Banchi's central location, traffic can be heavy, and many areas are pedestrian-only, so parking slightly further away and walking is often preferable.
Reaching Palazzo dei Notai
Just a stone's throw from Palazzo dei Banchi, you'll find the Palazzo dei Notai also along the edges of Piazza Maggiore next to the Basilica di San Petronio:
- On Foot: Since both palazzos are within the same area, getting to Palazzo dei Notai from Palazzo dei Banchi is a matter of a few steps walk across the square.
- By Public Transport: The same bus routes that drop you off near Palazzo dei Banchi will be suitable for Palazzo dei Notai. The building is well-signposted and easy to locate on the northeastern side of Piazza Maggiore.
- Taxi/Car: If you're visiting first time, a taxi can directly drop you at Piazza Maggiore, but as mentioned, due to traffic restrictions, it's best to walk after parking at a nearby space like Piazza Roosevelt.
While you're visiting these Palazzos, don't forget to immerse yourself in the rich history they offer. Moreover, Bologna is filled with amazing culinary delights, so save some time to indulge in local food like tortellini, tagliatelle al ragù (Bolognese sauce), and mortadella.
Enjoy your time exploring the historic and beautiful city of Bologna!
