Best Time To Visit Pangong Lake Viewpoint (Pangong Lake) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Pangong Lake Viewpoint, Pangong Tso, Ladakh, India

The most favorable time for a visit to the Pangong Lake Viewpoint in Ladakh is during the summer months of May through September. During this period, the weather is relatively mild with temperatures ranging from 8°C to 15°C, making it ideal for sightseeing and travel. The summer season sees the snow melting and the rejuvenation of the flora around the lake, enhancing its beauty. Despite the day being warm, nights can still get cold, so visitors are advised to carry layered clothing. Also, this is the time when the lake is in liquid state, displaying its famous changing colors from shades of blue to green depending on the sunlight.

The lake becomes inaccessible in winters, specifically from November to March, due to heavy snowfall which leads to road blockages. The winter temperature often plummets below freezing point, going as low as -20°C, and the lake freezes completely. For those interested in witnessing the frozen beauty of the lake and partaking in events like the ice-skating festival, late January and February could be considered for a visit, but only with proper planning and gear, as it is extremely challenging due to the harsh climatic conditions. It's important to check local advisories and tour operators for the status of the Manali-Leh and Srinagar-Leh highways, which are the only access routes to Ladakh and Pangong Tso.
