Food History of Promenade des Anglais, Nice, France

The Promenade des Anglais is a celebrated boulevard along the Mediterranean seafront in the French city of Nice. Its history and the food culture of Nice are deeply intertwined with the influences from both Italy and France, given the region's history of being a part of both countries at different periods in time. The culinary style here is known as "cuisine Niçoise" and is praised for its fresh ingredients and Mediterranean flavors.

Nice became a popular destination for the English aristocracy in the 18th century, which influenced the local cuisine and is one reason why the promenade is called the "Walkway of the English." Local dishes evolved with a blend of the fresh produce from the countryside, the seafood from the Mediterranean, and a touch of exotic flavors brought in by international visitors.
