Best Time to Visit Rasikbil Bird Sanctuary

Rasikbil Bird Sanctuary, nestled in the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal, India, is a paradise for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts. The sanctuary showcases a spectacular diversity of avifauna throughout the year. However, the best time to embark on a visit to this tranquil haven is between October and March. During these months, the weather is mild and conducive for bird-watching. The monsoon rains have receded, and the waters of the lake are teeming with life, drawing migratory birds from various parts of the world. This period is particularly great for spotting exotic migratory species such as the Greater Scaup, Ferruginous Duck, and the Fulvous Whistling Duck among others.

Visitors are encouraged to plan their trip during the winter months, especially from November to February, when an incredible influx of avian guests makes Rasikbil their temporary home. The mild winter climate not only facilitates a comfortable trek around the sanctuary but also enhances the bird watching experience as many species are actively foraging and are in full plumage. Early mornings are considered ideal for catching the most activity, as birds are most active during this time. Be it for the keen birdwatcher or the casual visitor looking to enjoy a serene natural environment, these months offer an unrivalled experience amidst the sheer diversity of the avian world. Additionally, the annual Rasikbil Bird Festival, generally held in late January or early February, adds to the allure, providing educational and entertaining activities related to bird conservation and awareness.
