Rockfort Temple, known as Ucchi Pillayar Temple, is a historic fort and temple complex built on an ancient rock in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India. The rock formation is believed to be one of the oldest in the world, estimated to be over a billion years old. Perched at a height of 83 meters above the surrounding plains, Rockfort Temple offers panoramic views of the city. It comprises two main Hindu temples— the Thayumanaswamy Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, which is situated halfway up the rock, and the Ucchi Pillayar Temple, at the summit, dedicated to Lord Ganesha. The complex is steeped in rich mythology and history. Legend has it that Lord Ganesha ran to the top of the rock with a stolen Shiv Lingam. The climb involves a steep flight of stairs hewn into the rock, leading up to the temples, with Srirangam and the Kaveri river making for a scenic backdrop. The complex also includes a 100-pillar hall and a tank, while its architecture features intricate carvings, inscriptions, and paintings that date back centuries.

Must visit before heading to other temples.
Awesome view from the top, especially the Garudas were circling the temple. It is tough to climb the stairs, but it is fulfilling to do so.
