The Sarawak Museum Complex located in Kuching, the capital city of the Malaysian state of Sarawak, is among the leading museums in Southeast Asia. It comprises several buildings and wings that house extensive collections that showcase the diverse cultural heritage and natural history of the region. Founded by Charles Brooke, the second White Rajah of Sarawak, in 1891, the museum has grown and expanded over the years. The elegant colonial-era building impressively replicates the style of a Normandy town hall which was intended to provide an educational experience to visitors about the local cultures and biodiversity. Within the museum complex, visitors can explore a variety of exhibits that include traditional artifacts, ethnographic collections, and archaeological findings. The museum emphasizes the indigenous cultures of Borneo, featuring traditional costumes, longhouse replicas, and collections of Bornean tribal weaponry. Additionally, there are exhibits dedicated to the region's wildlife, including taxidermy specimens of local fauna. The museum is set within sprawling gardens, further enhancing the visitor experience with a sense of tranquility amid historical learning.
The new museum building has just completed its renovation but unfortunately, the exhibits are currently wrapped and housed at an adjacent old building. Maybe best to check if they are up and running i..
It really shouldn't be necessary for local citizens to pay for the fees. This museum needs a lot of room for improvement. I hope it can change from the historical display of Sarawak to today's society..
Place is beautiful and is housed in a massive building.
Interesting artifacts and some good knowledgeable contents across 5 or 6 floors.
Washrooms are spotless , impressively clean.

AWESOME LOOK AT SARAWAKS HISTORY
Awesome, five floors of history presented in an easy to understand format. The building is huge and has not been open for very long. It is a true chronological view of the history of Sarawak.
