Understanding Sarazm

Sarazm is an ancient town and a UNESCO World Heritage Site located near the city of Panjakent in Tajikistan. Dating back to the 4th millennium BCE, it is one of the oldest urban settlements in Central Asia.

Reaching Sarazm Archaeological Site

1. Flying to Tajikistan: The closest international airport to Panjakent is the Dushanbe International Airport.
   • From there, you can take a domestic flight to Khujand Airport.
   • Alternatively, you can fly into Samarkand Airport in Uzbekistan, then cross the border to Tajikistan.
2. Overland from Dushanbe: You can rent a car or take a bus/taxi from Dushanbe to Panjakent. The journey can take approximately 5-7 hours.
3. Overland from Samarkand, Uzbekistan: After crossing the border, you can get a taxi or take a shared van to Panjakent.
4. Local Transportation to Sarazm: From Panjakent, Sarazm is approximately 15 km away. You can hire a local taxi to reach the archaeological site.

• Ensure you have the correct visa and travel documents for Tajikistan and/or Uzbekistan.
• It's best to arrange a taxi or guided tour to the site in advance as public transport options are limited.
