Stakna Monastery, a beautiful Buddhist monastery of the Drugpa sect, is located in the stunning region of Hemis, Ladakh in northern India. Visiting in the winter, from November to March, is typically not advised due to the harsh climatic conditions, with temperatures plummeting to minus 20°C and roads often being blocked by heavy snowfall. Although the winter landscape is breathtaking, many facilities are closed and transportation can be challenging. Therefore, for a more comfortable trip with easier access to the monastery and the chance to partake in local festivals, the summer and early autumn months are your best bet. Additionally, during this period, one can enjoy various activities like trekking, rafting, and motorbiking that enhance the Ladakhi experience. Ensure you are well acclimatized to the high altitude before you indulge in any strenuous activities to avoid altitude sickness.
