The Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum is a significant historical site located in Nanjing, China, dedicated to Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of the Republic of China. This iconic mausoleum is situated at the foot of the Purple Mountain and occupies an area of over 80,000 square meters. The mausoleum was constructed between 1926 and 1929 and is known for its majestic architecture which blends traditional imperial styles with modern elements, symbolizing Dr. Sun's vision for a modern China. The site is divided into three main architectural components: the Mausoleum Gate, the Mausoleum Passage, and the Sacrificial Hall which leads to the tomb itself. Visitors can walk the 392 steps, representing Sun Yat-sen's 392-million-word will, towards the vault which houses a marble statue of Dr. Sun. The surrounding scenic area is beautifully landscaped, with lush greenery and tranquil pathways, offering a place of reflection and remembrance of Sun Yat-sen's dedication to the Chinese Revolution and the subsequent overthrow of the Qing Dynasty.
