Taedong River Tourism

The Taedong River is a large river that flows through the heart of Pyongyang, the capital city of North Korea. It is approximately 439 kilometers long and passes through various landscapes before emptying into the Yellow Sea. Along its course, the river meanders through Pyongyang and significantly contributes to the city's aesthetics and economy, serving as a source of water for both irrigation and industrial activities. An important site situated on its banks is the Kim Il-sung Square, which is named after the founding leader of North Korea. This public square is known as a place for massive parades, state events, and gatherings, notably for political demonstrations and speeches. The square measures about 75,000 square meters, and is surrounded by notable government buildings and facilities. The presence of the river and the square in Pyongyang marks a location of immense national significance in North Korea.
