Taif is a city located in the Mecca Province of western Saudi Arabia, known for its cool climate and fertile soil which stands in contrast to much of the surrounding region. It is situated in the mountains at an elevation of 1,879 meters (6,165 feet) above sea level, which contributes to its milder temperatures, especially in summer compared to other parts of Saudi Arabia. The city is often referred to as the 'Summer Capital' of the country, where people come to enjoy the cooler weather. Taif is famous for its gardens, grape festivals, and the production of Taif roses, which are used in some of the world’s most expensive perfumes. The area boasts historical sites like Shubra Palace, Turkish forts, and the remnants of Hijaz railway stations. It's also home to Al Rudaf Park, a large natural park where the rock formations date back more than 2 million years. Taif’s mountainous terrain provides opportunities for hiking and sightseeing, with stunning vistas of the city and the plains below. The city is a blend of modernity with shopping malls, hotels, and restaurants, juxtaposed with traditional markets and the simplicity of mountain life.
