Thangu Valley is a serene destination located at an altitude of 13,500 feet above sea level in North Sikkim, India. Known for its alpine meadows and beautiful rivulets, this picturesque valley is approximately 30 kilometers north of Lachung at the confluence of the Thangu Chu, Chopta Chu, and Lassur Chu rivers. The valley remains covered with a blanket of snow for the most part of the year. During the months of June and July, the area bursts into a riot of colors with Rhododendrons and various other alpine flowers. Thangu Village serves as the base for the journey towards Chopta Valley and Gurudongmar Lake. This remote village is sparsely populated with resilient, warm-hearted people accustomed to the harsh mountainous climate. Thangu also plays host to migratory birds in the summer, making it a haven for birdwatchers. Life here follows the rhythms of nature, and the valley offers raw, untouched beauty that is increasingly rare in today's world.
