How To Reach Turin Cathedral

Traveling to Turin Cathedral, Turin, Italy

Turin Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist (Duomo di Torino), is a popular historical and religious landmark located in the center of Turin, Italy. The cathedral is famously known for housing the Shroud of Turin. It can be easily reached using various modes of transportation:

By Air

For international travelers, the nearest airport is Turin Airport (TRN), also known as Turin-Caselle Airport. Upon arrival, you can use the following transit methods:

  • Bus: The SADEM bus service connects the airport to Turin city center, which takes about 45-50 minutes. From there, Turin Cathedral is a short walk or taxi ride away.
  • Taxi: Taxis are readily available at the airport and offer a direct route to the Cathedral.
  • Car Rental: Renting a car at the airport is another option; you can easily drive to the cathedral as it's roughly a 20-minute journey, depending on traffic.

By Train

Turin has two main train stations: Porta Nuova and Porta Susa. Both are well-connected to other major Italian cities like Milan, Rome, and Venice.

  • Porta Nuova: Once you arrive, you can take a short walk of about 15 minutes along Via Roma to reach the cathedral.
  • Porta Susa: From here, you can either walk for about 25 minutes or take a tram or bus towards the city center.

By Car

If you're driving to Turin, it's important to note that the city center, including the area around the Cathedral, is a Zona a Traffico Limitato (ZTL), which restricts vehicle access at certain times to reduce traffic congestion and pollution. Ensure you're aware of these restrictions to avoid fines. Parking can be found just outside the ZTL area.

By Public Transport

Turin has an efficient public transportation system with buses, trams, and an underground metro. You can use any of these services to get closer to the cathedral:

  • Bus/Tram: Several bus and tram lines stop near the cathedral. The closest stops include those on lines 4, 7, 11, 27, 51, 57, which put you within walking distance.
  • Metro: The closest metro station is Porta Nuova, where you can alight and walk to the cathedral.

By Foot

If you're already exploring the city center, Turin Cathedral is easily accessible on foot and is located near other popular attractions such as the Royal Palace of Turin (Palazzo Reale) and the Piazza Castello.

Remember to check the opening hours of the Cathedral and any special events that might affect visiting times. Also, always check for updated schedules and routes for public transportation, as they can change due to holidays or city events.
