Must-Try Foods In Yusmarg (Kashmir) For Tourists 2026 - 2027

Food History of Yusmarg, Kashmir, India

Kashmiri cuisine is deeply influenced by its geography, climate, and the rich cultural heritage of the region. The invasions by the Mughals, the influences from Persian and Central Asian cuisines, as well as the staple ingredients native to the valley, have all shaped the region's food culture. Since Yusmarg is less commercialized compared to other parts of Kashmir, traditional methods and authentic flavors are preserved. The use of aromatic spices like saffron, cardamom, and fennel, as well as the extensive use of dry fruits, reflects the authenticity of Kashmiri cuisine. While Kashmir is predominantly known for its non-vegetarian dishes, especially those made with lamb and chicken, vegetarian cuisine also holds a significant place within its culinary tradition.
