Introduction:
Kashmir, the land of breathtaking natural beauty, is a paradise on earth. Nestled in the lap of the Himalayas, this enchanting region is known for its snow-capped mountains, lush green meadows, crystal-clear lakes, and charming houseboats. My recent tour to Kashmir, starting from the beautiful city of Srinagar, was an unforgettable experience. Let me take you through my travel diary, as I share some of the most memorable moments from my Kashmir tour.
Upon reaching Srinagar, I was greeted by cool breeze and the soothing sound of the Jhelum River. The first thing that caught my eye was the magnificent Dal Lake, shimmering under the sunlight. I couldn't resist but take a ride on the traditional Kashmiri Shikara and explore the floating markets and beautiful gardens that are lined along the banks of the lake. The exquisite Mughal gardens like Nishat Bagh and Shalimar Bagh left me spellbound with their well-manicured lawns, blooming flowers, and stunning views of the Dal Lake. After a tiring day, I opted to stay in a luxurious houseboat, where I was pampered with warm hospitality and delectable Kashmiri cuisine.
Gulmarg, located just a few hours' drive from Srinagar, is a picture-perfect hill station that is famous for its scenic beauty and adventure sports. The journey to Gulmarg itself was a visual treat as we drove through scenic meadows and pristine forests. Upon reaching, I was mesmerized by the snow-covered peaks and vast stretches of lush green meadows. I took a cable car ride, known as the Gulmarg Gondola, which took me to the highest point, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. I also tried my hand at skiing on the gentle slopes which was an exhilarating experience. Gulmarg truly lived up to its name as the "Meadow of Flowers."
The next destination on my itinerary was Pahalgam, a quaint town nestled in the Lidder Valley. The journey to Pahalgam was filled with breathtaking views of gushing streams, cascading waterfalls, and lush pine forests. One of the highlights of Pahalgam was a visit to the iconic Betaab Valley, named after the Bollywood movie "Betaab" that was shot here. Surrounded by snow-clad mountains and carpeted with colorful flowers, the valley was a sight to behold. I also took a leisurely pony ride along the Lidder River and visited the famous Chandanwari, the starting point of the Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage.
Sonmarg, meaning "Meadow of Gold," was my next stop, and it completely lived up to its name. This stunning hill station is located at an altitude of 2,740 meters and is surrounded by towering snow-capped mountains. The drive to Sonmarg was a thrilling experience as we passed through narrow roads, crossed roaring streams, and witnessed the beauty of the Thajiwas Glacier. I couldn't resist but take a pony ride up to the glacier, where I soaked in the ethereal beauty of the snow-covered landscape. Sonmarg is a paradise for adventure enthusiasts, offering activities like trekking, camping, and river rafting.
On my final day in Kashmir, as I bid adieu to this heavenly land, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed with a sense of gratitude. The beauty and serenity of Kashmir had captured my heart, and I knew that I would cherish these memories for a lifetime. Kashmir is a place that offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural vibrancy, and warm hospitality. From the charming houseboats of Srinagar to the snow-covered peaks of Gulmarg, every moment of my Kashmir tour was a treasure to behold.
