The Amareshwara Temple, also known as Amaralingeswara Temple, is situated in the town of Amaravathi, in Guntur district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is considered one of the five Pancharama Kshetras in Andhra Pradesh. It is located on the southern bank of the Krishna River and boasts a rich history dating back to the 2nd century. The temple features a towering Gopuram (temple tower) that exhibits intricate carvings and ancient architecture symbolic of the Dravidian style. A striking feature is the large Shivalinga presiding in the sanctum, which is revered by devotees. According to mythology, the temple commemorates the spot where Lord Shiva's Amareswara form was worshipped by the gods after the demon Tarakasura's defeat. The town of Amaravathi is also significant as it encompasses the remaining historical remnants of a major Buddhist stupa.
